Non-musical history for today: 1773 – America’s first insane asylum opens. The Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia, burned down in 1885 due to a fire that had started in the building’s newly added electrical wiring. but was rebuilt. In 1985, it was refurbished to look like the original building built in 1773.
