Non-musical history for today: 1520 – More than 50 people were sentenced for heresy and executed in the Stockholm Bloodbath. That was just on the 9th. On the 7th and 8th, there were others, ending with almost 100 people being terminated. It started just after Christian II’s coronation when Archbishop Gustav Trolle accused supporters of the recently deceased regent Sten Sture of heresy. It was probably a retaliation from Archbishop Trolle about his ouster in his first term just a few years prior. Christian II just executed whoever was accused. They even exhumed Sten Sture’s body and burned it at the stake. Christian II became known as Kristian Tyrann (‘Christian the Tyrant’).
