Non-musical history for today: 1421 – A dike in the Grote Hollandse Waard in the Netherlands breaks, killing about 10,000 people during the Feast of St. Elizabeth. One supposed story, or probably just a legend, was the cat and the cradle tale. The flood washed away a baby’s crib and a cat. The crib was supposedly found floating in the aftermath, with the cat jumping from side to side to keep the cradle dry. Nice story, but can we believe it?
