Non-Musical history for today: 1851 – Sojourner Truth delivered her famous “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech at the Woman’s Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio. Sojourner escaped slavery with her infant daughter in 1827 after her master reneged on a promise to set her free. “That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages and lifted over ditches and to have the best place everywhere. And ain’t I a woman?” She was referring to how white women were revered, but black women were not.
Also… happy Memorial Day to you all. This is a day to remember the fallen heroes of the armed services. Many folks mix up Memorial Day and Veterans Day. This is to honor the fallen. Veterans Day is for anyone who served.
