Beeswax Vinyl Daily March 31, 2024

Non-musical history for today: 1930 – The Motion Picture Production Code was instituted, imposing strict guidelines on the treatment of sex, crime, religion, and violence in film in the U.S. for the next thirty-eight years. Sometimes it is called the Hays Code after Will H. Hays. Either way, it was stupid and detrimental to quality film production. There were attempts to create a “rating system,” but that was continually shot down until Eric Johnston died, and a more forward-thinking regime was installed. I still think the ratings are a bit stupid, but it’s better than it was under the “watchful eyes” of the Hays folks.

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for March 31.

Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza.
