Non-Musical history for today: 1839 — Cherokee leaders Major Ridge, John Ridge, and Elias Boudinot were assassinated for signing the Treaty of New Echota, which, in essence, resulted in the Trail of Tears. The Treaty of New Echota paved the way for the Cherokee succession of land and to move to the “Indian Territory.” Most of the Cherokee disapproved, and more than these three were listed as targets, with one more attempt on Stand Watie being unsuccessful. It kicked off the Cherokee Civil War, which ran well after the American Civil War ended.

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for June 22.
