Beeswax Vinyl Daily June 20, 2024

Non-musical history for today: 1791 – King Louis XVI, disguised as a valet, and the French royal family attempted to flee Paris during the French Revolution. Louis’s indecision, many delays, and misunderstanding of France were responsible for the failure of the escape. Within 24 hours, the royal family was arrested at a small monastery town after Jean-Baptiste Drouet recognized the king from his profile on paper money (called livres) and had given the alert. Louis and his family were taken back to Paris. Viewed suspiciously as traitors, they were placed under tight house arrest upon their return to the large palace known as Tuileries.

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for June 20.
