Non-musical history for today: 1789 – Mutiny on the Bounty: HMS Bounty mutiny survivors, including Captain William Bligh and 18 others, reached Timor after a nearly 4,600 mi journey in an open boat. Fletcher Christian, the mutineer leader, along with several Tahitian men and women and other deserters, burned the HMS Bounty after taking up residence on Pitcairn Island to escape discovery. He died on Pitcairn Island, most likely killed by the Tahitian men. He was in his late 20s.
