Non-Musical history for today: 1938 – Howard Hughes began a 91-hour airplane flight (three days, 19 hours, 17 minutes) around the world that would set a new record. The previous record was 186 hours. He took off from New York City, and continued to Paris, Moscow, Omsk, Yakutsk (all three in Russia), Fairbanks, Alaska, and Minneapolis, before returning to New York City.
