Non-Musical history for today: 1963 – ZIP codes were introduced for United States mail. ZIP is always capitalized because it stands for Zone Improvement Plan. The USPS says it was chosen to suggest that the mail travels more efficiently and quickly (zipping along) when senders use the code in the postal address. We all know that’s total BS. Nothing makes the mail faster and certainly not more efficient.
Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for July 1.
