Non-musical history for today: 1764 – The radical British journalist and politician John Wilkes was expelled from the British House of Commons for seditious libel. He and a friend had written a somewhat pornographic poem about a famous courtesan, who happened to be the mistress of John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, and Montagu was freaked out. Because he felt pranked, Montagu led the ouster of Wilkes from the Commons. Petty, I say.
