Non-musical history for today: 1878 – John Tunstall was murdered by outlaw Jesse Evans, sparking the Lincoln County War in Lincoln County, New Mexico. This is significant because of the participation of William H. Bonney or “Billy the Kid.” If you saw Young Guns, then Terence Stamp’s character was John Tunstall. Lawrence Murphy’s (played by Jack Palance) hired guns included several gangs, most likely Jesse Evans. But it wasn’t clear in the film. Some say that despite the notoriety that Billy the Kid got from that, Jesse Evans was more ruthless and more widely feared.

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for February 18.

Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza.
