Non-Musical history for today: 1980 – After John Birges, Sr. planted a bomb at Harvey’s Resort Hotel in Stateline, Nevada, the FBI inadvertently detonated the bomb during its disarming. There were no injuries or deaths but about $18M worth of damage. Birges and a group of friends disguised themselves as photocopy installers and crafted a photocopier that was rigged with TNT. Birges had lost $750k there and was looking to extort the hotel as payback. He died in jail in 1996. He was 74.
