Non-Musical history for today: 1958 – Vladimir Nabokov’s controversial novel Lolita was published in the United States. So many song lyrics are derived from this book and not all of them have to do with the pedophilia aspects. Like, did you know that the Spandau Ballet song, “True” takes its “pill on the tongue” and “seaside arms” (even though Nabokov said “seaside limbs”) from that novel and Sting references it in the Police’s “Don’t Stand So Close to Me.” There are plenty more…
