Non-musical history for today: 1992 – In New York, Mafia boss John Gotti was convicted of murder and racketeering and was later sentenced to life in prison. Federal prosecutors charged Gotti, in this new racketeering case, with five murders (Castellano, Bilotti, DiBernardo, Milito, and, after review of the apartment tapes, Louis DiBono), conspiracy to murder Gaetano “Corky” Vastola, loansharking, illegal gambling, obstruction of justice, bribery, and tax evasion. He died in 2002 at the age of 61 from throat cancer.
