Beeswax Vinyl Daily April 18, 2024

Non-musical history for today: 796 – King Æthelred I of Northumbria was murdered in Corbridge by a group led by his ealdormen, Ealdred and Wada. The patrician Osbald is crowned but abdicated within 27 days. Ealdorman was a term in Anglo-Saxon England which originally applied to a man of high status, including some of royal birth, whose authority was independent of the king. The term is still around today, and we know it as Alderman. Osbald abdicated because everyone abandoned him. Last one out, blow out the torch, or something like that…

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for April 18.
